SC/ST and OBC Cell

In line with the affirmative policy of Government of India, Baruipur College has resolved that the affirmative policies, programmes, schemes, facilities would be provided to the persons belonging to socially and economically weaker sections of the society.

The college is committed to provide an environment that promotes diversity and respects everyone regardless of colour, religious belief or cultures. While maintaining diversity of all kinds, it also commits to ensuring protection of everyone including SC/ST and OBCs and acting as per the provisions of constitution of India in such matters. In order to create a living and working environment where all students feel safe and respected and with a view to ensure implementation of the affirmative policy of the Government of India/UGC and related orders issued by such authorities from time to time for the benefit of SC/ST and OBCs, Baruipur college established the SC/ST & OBC Cell on 26th March 2010, according to Governing Body resolution.

The SC/ST and OBCs Cell provides comprehensive preventive and proactive services to all such students enrolled for various academic programmes in the college. The goal of the cell is to enhance the psychological wellbeing of SC/ST/OBC students at Baruipur College so they can take full advantage of the educational opportunities at the college.

The SC/ST and OBCs Cell is headed by the Principal, Baruipur College. The college has also appointed Nodal Officers to oversee the effective implementation of reservation policies/rules related to SC/ST and OBC as per Government of India/UGC notifications. The present Nodal Officers of the SC/ST and OBC Cell in the college are as follows:

Objectives:

1) To assist and guide the SC/ST/OBC/ Minority students in handling the personal and academic challenges of their college life.

2) To inspect the matter of implementation of reservation policy of State and Central Government during admission.

3) To inform SC/ST/OBC students about the different scholarship provided by the State and UGC/Central.

4) To counsel the SC/ST/OBC students regarding their career options.

5) To make free from any discrimination based on cast and community.

6) To offer proper counselling for any emotional crisis if caused by any incident within the college campus.

Working Mechanism of the Committee:

1) The cell provides the information about the available scholarships and help them to apply for the same.

2) During the time of admission the cell appoint an office personnel to give the proper guidance and instructions to the SC/ST/OBC students.

3) Cell encourages the SC/ST/OBC students to participate in the skill development related courses conducted within the college.

Meeting of the Committee:

The cells usually organize a meeting with the convenor and all members for setting certain objectives and guidelines as per the college vision and mission.

The overall functions of SC/ST/OBC Cell at Baruipur College are the following:

  1. Informal Advisory Committee on SCs/STs and OBCs
  2. Ensuring Reservation policies in regard to SCs/STs and OBCs
  3. Complaint Register for SCs/STs and OBCs
  4. Maintenance of Reservation Rosters/Registers
  5. To ensure compliance of the orders of reservation issued and other benefits admissible from time to time in favour of SC/ST and OBCs
  6. To ensure provisions for an environment where all such students feel safe and secure.
  7. To provide prompt counselling for any emotional emergencies arising on account of any events at the campus.
  8. To communicate with the UGC/ DoPT/ MHRD/ etc. with respect to supply of required information, answering queries and clearing doubts with respect to reservations data/information etc.
  9. To arrange for special opportunities to enhance the career growth of SCs/STs and OBC students.
  10. To circulate State Government and UGC’s decisions about different scholarship programs.
  11. To communicate with Office of the Commissioner for SC/ST and OBCs in response of representations/ complaints.
